Two buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) were seized by the District and Sessions Court here on Tuesday.

Court sources told The Hindu that the seizure ordered by the District and Sessions Judge R. Premkumar followed the failure of the Corporation to pay compensation in two accident cases.

Giving details, they said that on June 15, 2009 a TNSTC bus plying between Dheenatty and Kotagiri had overturned near the Uyilatty Water Falls.

A case had been filed by one of the injured passengers J. Bhojarajan of Uyilatty.

On August 26, 2011 the court had asked the Corporation to pay a compensation of Rs.1.27 lakh with interest. However it had not been honoured and the amount has risen to Rs. 1.54 lakh.

In the other case L. Nataraj (45) of Muttinad village near here was walking on the Karamadai-Mettupalayam Road on December 22, 2003 when he was hit by a TNSTC bus. He died the next day.

His brother L. Haldorai had filed a case against the TNSTC. The court had ordered on March 31, 2010 to pay a compensation of Rs.1 lakh.
