Members of the Tamilaga Veetu Vasathi Variya Orunkinaintha Othukeetalargal Nala Sangham on Monday numbering more than 250 gathered in front of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board office in Sivananda Colony as part of their agitation to present petitions en-masse seeking an end to a nearly two-decade-old impasse in giving away sale deeds.
The petitioners were led by S.K. Sundararaj and K. Jayachandran, President and Secretary of the Association and the petitioners were from Vetri Vinayakar Nagar, Ganapathy Maa Naagar, Thendral Nagar and VOC Nagar in Ganapathy area.
Mr.Sundararaj and Mr.Jayachandran said that even after remittance of all the dues in the last 17 years, the Housing Board owing to its lapses in finalisation of land cost and pending land acquisition petitions was delaying the disbursement of sale deed.
Owing to administrative lapses, there was a delay in finalisation of rates and it was unfair to impose interest on the renewed calculations and interest and penal interest on the same.
The petitions prayed for immediate fixation of final cost in certain areas and also to withdraw the final rates imposed on allottees in some areas, as it was found to be unreasonable and unjustified.
The petition also urged the TNHB to file its counter before the Supreme Court, as the appeal suit was pending before the court for nearly one-and-a-half years because of the failure of the TNHB to file its counter.
It also urged the TNHB to withdraw its unrealistic cost imposed on residents of block I to IV.
Legal remedy
The agitators also decided to approach the apex court for legal remedy besides conducting series of movements to make the TNHB “wake up from the slumber”.
All the affected allottees have decided to present petitions en-masse to the Managing Director of the TNHB.
Executive Engineer of TNHB Shankar Lal held talks with the agitated allottees and promised to resolve their grievances by drawing the attention of the Board and the Government.
However, talks continued late into the evening. TNHB officials had in principle given a reply to all the sixteen resolutions passed by the sangham.
Officials have promised to resolve issues that could be done locally at the earliest possible and also to take steps for filing a counter for the appeal suit pending before the Supreme Court besides fixing the final cost for Phase VI within the next two to three days besides taking steps to revise the steep final costs.
They also promised to take all the 16 resolutions to the notice of the Housing Board.
