Forty-four conservancy workers and their family members staying in T.M.C. Adiravidar Colony alongside Tirupur-Palladam highway petitioned District Collector G. Govindaraj on Monday seeking title deeds.

K. Muthusamy, one of the petitioners, said that the families were staying in the plots, which falls under Government Natham poramboke category, for the last 73 years.

“Conservancy workers who have been staying under similar conditions in other parts of the city have been given title deeds,” he said.

The petitioners said that the revenue officials had promised to look into the grievance.

Dalit students

A group of 25 post graduate students belonging to Adi Dravidar community and studying in Chikkanna Government Arts College here, gave a memorandum to the District Collector seeking accommodation in the Adi Dravidar students hostel functioning on the institution premises.

T. Paventhan, a student from Dharmapuri district, said that only undergraduate students were being allowed to stay in the hostel.

“Since the house rentals in Tirupur city are high, we are unable to pay it,” he said adding that large number of students enrolled in the college for post graduate courses were from Dharmapuri district.
