A total of seven multi-utility vehicles were pressed into service by the district police on Wednesday to strengthen patrolling along the national highway (NH) and state highway (SH) stretches in the district.
Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh told The Hindu that these vehicles would have breath analysers, first-aid kits and signal equipments to deviate traffic in case of emergencies, among other devices.
“A fresh set of hand-picked trained police personnel will be used for handling the equipment in the said vehicles after giving them training on use of equipment and how to give first-aid,” he added.
The seven vehicles would be used to cover NH-47 sector from Avinashi to Pallagoundenpalayam (45 km), NH- 67 sector from Arakulampirivu to Kurukatti (via Samanthampalayam) (66 km), NH- 209 sector from Anthiyur to Amarvathiplayam (32 km), SH – 174 from Tirupur South police station to Dharapuram (40 km), SH-87 from Udumalpet to Palladam (48 km), SH-37 from Dharapuram to Kangayam (34 kms) and SH-172 from Nallur to Nathakadayur (34 km).
