Three-day livestock expo of TANUVAS at Coimbatore

The expo, to be held at the T.A. Ramalingam Chettiar Higher Secondary School at Saibaba Colony, will have more than 80 stalls

The Regional Exhibition of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) to be held here from December 28 to December 30 will provide basic to advanced information on livestock and fisheries to the beginner as well as the professional, R. Prabhakaran, Vice-Chancellor of the university said here on Thursday.

This is the third regional expo of the university for this year. The first one was held in Tiruchi in February, and the second one in Tirunelveli in September. The expo, to be held at the T.A. Ramalingam Chettiar Higher Secondary School at Saibaba Colony, will have more than 80 stalls.

Addressing a press conference, the Vice-Chancellor said the information and techniques to be displayed in the expo would address the local farming and livestock pattern, characteristic of the districts of Coimbatore, Erode, the Nilgiris, and Tirupur.

“Coimbatore is faring well in terms of livestock compared to other regions. It can still do better. The concept-based expo will have information that will be distributed to visitors in the form of books, pamphlets, flyers, short films and CDs, and beyond that nearly 120 experts in various specialisations and 50 students will be on hand to explain the concepts,” Mr. Prabhakaran said.

The expo will also have stalls showcasing the educational opportunities to aspiring animal husbandry graduates and also those who are rearing livestock and were interested in gaining formal knowledge.

TANUVAS offered 11 informal programmes in the distance education mode, and 18 skill development programmes of short durations that could be pursued by even school drop-outs, he added.

The expo would be inaugurated by T.K.M. Chinnaiya, Minister of Animal Husbandry. K.A. Jayapal, Minister for Fisheries, and S. Damodaran, Minister for Agriculture, will be present.

On December 29, there will be a pet carnival from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Pets of any breed and age can participate. There are many prizes to be won under various categories. The expo will be open on all three days from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
