Three women held for theft

Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police arrested three women on the charge of picking the bags of co-passengers and the public in shopping areas, and recovered 20 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs.65,000 in cash.

Kaliammal (52) of Pannimadai was robbed of her valuables while travelling in a bus near Sai Baba Colony recently. Special teams that probed into the case arrested Erode Lakshmi (55), Kalpana (38) and Sona (26), all from Madurai residing in Erode.

The gang used to travel to places such as Pollachi, Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore and indulge in such activities.

Arrested for stealing

The Periyanaickenpalayam police arrested Sekar (44) on the charge of stealing from his wife’s brother’s house.

According to the police, Kumar of Narashimanaickenpalayam had gone out when Kumar’s brother-in-law Sekar visited the house. He accompanied his wife Shoba to a temple. Under the pretext of buying pooja materials, Sekar reportedly came back to the house and looted 12 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs.15,000 in cash.
