Three tourists killed in accident near Coonoor

Three tourists from Kolkata were killed in an accident on the Ooty-Coonoor national highway on Saturday. According to the police Sainik Bose, a medical representative from Kolkata and his family members Sushmitha Bose, Lizy Bose, Sandhya Das, Manju Das and Somnath Datta had reached Mettupalayam by train in the morning.

They had hired a taxi to reach Uthagamandalam. Four tourists from Pathanamthita in Kerala Shibu, Ramesh, Praveen and Aneez had also travelled in the same vehicle.

While proceeding near Aruvankadu a Coimbatore bound bus of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation had collided with it. In the impact Manju Das (53),Somnath Datta (38) and the car driver Ilango (24) died

on the spot. All the other occupants and three of the bus passengers Parvathy,Seethai and Chinnammal were injured.

They were taken to the Government Hospital in Coonoor and those with multiple injuries shifted to Coimbatore.

The bus driver R.Sunderaraj (28) was taken for questioning by the police.

On account of the accident traffic was disrupted on the highway for sometime.
