Healthcare facilities in the primary health centres (PHC) at Mulanoor, Muthur and Nathakkadayur, all under Dharapuram Health Unit District (HUD), got a facelift with the commissioning of new in-patient blocks and operation theatres at Rs 1.91 crore on Tuesday

Deputy Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine V. Vijayalakshmi told The Hindu that the cost that had been incurred for the construction of operation theatres, X-ray units, neo-natal wards, female and male wards, labour wards and post operative wards at the three primary health centres was taken from the corpus created under the National Rural Health Mission.
Till now, the three primary health centres had only six beds each for in-patients and now it had gone up to 30.
“Since the facilities are enhanced, more medical officers have been allocated to take the total sanctioned strength of medical officers in each of the three PHCs to five,” she said.

Prior to the infrastructure elevation, the sanctioned strength of medical officers at Mulanoor was three while that in the other two PHCs was two.
Earlier on the day, Minister for Health M. R. K. Paneerselvam and Minister for Highways and Minor Ports M. P. Saminathan jointly inaugurated the upgraded facilities at the three PHCs.
