Three held for robbery near Anamalai

Anamalai Police arrested three persons from Anamalai on Sunday for allegedly threatening an aged person and taking away Rs. 1 lakh cash from his house in June this year. The police said the incident took place shortly after midnight on June 16, when the victim Shanmugam (60) was alone in his house at Attamparai Thottam, in Chinnampalayam village, near Anamalai.

While police formed special teams and were on the lookout for the accused, the trio was nabbed based on a piece of information from an informer. It is learnt that Rs. 20,000 was recovered from them and efforts were underway to recover the remaining amount.

Police identified the arrested persons as L. Sanjeevi (36), K. Masani (23) and M. Palpandi from Anamalai Town. They were booked under section 392 (punishment for robbery) of the Indian Penal Code, produced before the Judicial Magistrate-I in Pollachi and remanded. Police said Sanjeevi was arrested in connection with a murder case and was released on bail.

Bag snatched

A bag with about 20 grams gold jewellery and three ATM cards in it was snatched away from a woman at Race Course on Saturday night. According to Race Course Police, the victim V. Niranjana (33), of Subramaniyapalayam near G.N. Mills, was waiting for her husband in front of Achi Mess at Race Course when a man grabbed her bag and fled from the place with his accomplice who was waiting on his bike.

Four held for flesh trade

The police arrested four persons, including three women from Kerala, for allegedly organising flesh trade. Kuniyamuthur Police said that Rs. 21,640 cash and four mobile phones were seized from them.

Arrested

The Dharapuram police arrested Manoharan (44) for using abusive and threatening language at a judicial magistrate while the hearing was underway in a case involving him. Police sources said Manoharan was arrested on Saturday under Sections 209 (b) (uttering obscene words), 353 (criminal force to deter a public servant) and 506 ii (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
