The Saravanampatty police have arrested three persons on charges of hurling a bomb made of kerosene-filled bottle at a restaurant on Sathyamangalam Road on Friday evening. The police are on the lookout for four more persons, including the prime accused Muthukumar.
The police said that they had arrested S. Radhakrishnan, 34, of Sivanandapuram, S. Saravanakumar, 31, of Maruthi Nagar, and Prabhu alias Muthukumar, 24, of Sivanandapuram on Saturday noon.
The three along with four others went to the restaurant and hurled the bomb after the restaurant managers refused to down shutters on Friday, when various Hindu organisations called for a hartal to condemn the attack on workers of Hindu outfits.
The police said the arrested belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The police added that they had seized two two-wheelers, which the accused had used to reach the restaurant. At the time of the incident around 100 persons were having food at the venue. Earlier on Friday, the protestors had asked the restaurant management to down the shutters and also attempted to stone the premises.
The police sent the three accused for remand by Saturday evening.
Earlier in the day, members of various Hindu organisations staged a demonstration in front of the Saravanampatty Police Station to protest against the police picking up the accused for questioning.
The protestors raised slogans condemning the police for picking up the three persons and alleged that the police attempted to foist cases against the three.
Tension prevailed in the area for a while.
