Peelamedu Police arrested three persons from Rajasthan on Saturday for their alleged involvement in three incidents of dacoity in the city on Thursday and Friday. The accused were identified as P. Madhan (26), S. Kalu (25) and L. Babulal (24) of Kera village in Ajmer district, Rajasthan. Police said that the accused waylaid a man in Saravanampatti Police station limits on Thursday and took away his two-wheeler and Rs. 2,500.
On Friday the three reportedly waylaid S. Selvam (22) of Rangapuram near Singanallur and allegedly took away a gold chain at knife point.
The trio waylaid Iyavu (43), a resident of Ragavendra Avenue, at V.K. Road, Cheran Managar, later that day (Friday) and took away Rs. 3,450.
The accused were booked under sections 392 (robbery) – read with section 397 (dacoity with an attempt to cause death or cause grievous hurt) – of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate-7 in Coimbatore and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
