Three arrested on murder charge

The Negamum police arrested three of a family on the charge of murdering their relative.

The police said that after a verbal duel, over flow of sewage near their houses, between farmer Ramasamy (68) and his nephew Kuppusamy’s family on Monday night, Kuppusamy (51), his wife Parvathy (44) and daughter-in-law Kavitha (25), assaulted Ramasamy.

He sustained injuries and fell unconscious. The Negamum police, who rushed to the spot, rushed Ramasamy to the nearby Udumalpet Government Hospital and from there to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police registered a case and arrested Kuppusamy and two of his family.

PDS rice seized

The Food Cell Flying Squad officials on Tuesday seized a tonne of rice meant for public distribution and arrested two persons in this connection. Sources said that during a vehicle check on Coimbatore Bypass Road near Sulur, they intercepted a van, in which they found 10 bags of rice. During interrogation, the officials found that driver Mujibur Rahman and cleaner Sathish Kumar planned to smuggle the rice to Kerala. They were arrested.

Two held

The Ukkadam police arrested B. Mohammed Sabi (23) and Mohammed Hussain on charges of abusing and preventing a Sub-Inspector from discharging his duty.

The police said that when SI Jawahar Kumar, attached to the Ukkadam Police Station, stopped the two on a two-wheeler for a routine vehicle check near the Big Bazaar Street-N.H. Road Junction, the two abused him. One of the two rode the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, the police said.

Two arrested

The Saravanampatty police arrested two persons on the charge of selling pirated prints of latest Tamil films. The police said that an officer attached to the station found B. Suresh (30) of Chinnavedampatty selling compact discs containing pirated prints near the Textool Bridge in Ganapathy. This was on Monday evening.

The officer also found B. Shanmugam (42) of Saibaba Colony selling 12 compact discs containing pirated prints of latest Tamil films. This was near the CMS School Bus Stop. The police registered two cases against the accused.

Killed in accident

T. Devaraj (45) of Sathyanarayanapuram was killed in a road accident near the Pappampatti Pirivu on Monday. According to the Sulur police, a lorry hit the two-wheeler he was riding. Devaraj sustained injuries and died on way to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The lorry driver, who drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, is yet to be arrested.
