Three arrested for attempt to murder

The Ramanathapuram Police have arrested three persons while a search is on for another person for allegedly attempting to murder a drug peddler here on Sunday. According to the police, the victim, Gundu Manikandan alias Manikandan (39) of Ammankulam Yerimedu was a drug peddler.

“He has been imprisoned four times. This year, he was arrested twice. After serving a three-month imprisonment he was released last month. It is learnt that Manikandan was supplying marijuana to three of the attackers in the past,” the police said.

Following his release, they approached him for drugs. “But he did not give them, fearing that they might trap him. He also had a fight with them on Saturday over the issue,” they said.

According to Manikandan, he was walking on the road on Sunday when the accused attacked him and tried to stab him. He suffered a cut injury on his hand when he tried to stop them.

The police arrested Iruthayaraj (41), Rajan (34) and Sathish Kumar (34) and are on the lookout for Sridhar. The victim is being treated at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
