Friday's election results have brought in many new faces to the Corporation Council. And among the losers there are familiar faces, most of them sitting councillors. The prominent losers include DMK councillor and former Deputy Mayor N. Karthik. He lost the mayoral race by over 1.25 lakh votes.
Among the councillor contestants Congress councillor V.K.S.K. Senthilkumar, who represented the old Ward 33, CPI councillor R. Kalyanasundaram, who represented the old Ward 59, Independent councillor M.S. Velmurugan, who represented the old Ward 57, DMK councillor V.N. Udayakumar, who represented the old Ward 24, and DMK councillor P. Nachimuthu, who represented the old Ward 42, are the notable losers.
Former East Zone Chairman S.M. Samy, a DMK candidate in the new Ward 61, Former Taxation Committee Chairman A. Nandakumar, a DMK candidate in the new Ward 52, are among the notable winners.
Both from the DMK, they managed to buck the prevailing trend.
Meena Loganathan, another DMK councillor, also made it to the Council, emerging victorious in Ward 49. She was a member of the last Council as well.
AIADMK councillor P. Rajkumar, a former Councillor, is another notable winner. He has emerged victorious in Ward 46.
