For the thousands of Coimbatore school students who are avid readers of The Hindu In School , a wide range of new innovative features, programmes and contests have been introduced this year to equip them with the skills necessary to face the contemporary challenges.

At a meeting of school Principals organised here on Tuesday by The Hindu In School , the Principals were given a peek into what has been planned for the current academic year.

Some of the value-additions introduced include the Miracle Maker, an interpersonal skills training programme for teachers, Catalyst, a science quiz, a Newspaper Collage Week for readers to engage with newspapers more purposefully and creatively and a speed reading contest besides a Young Journalists’ Meet to build strong analytical instincts and presentation skills in students.

Further, school students would now also get the chance to contribute new items to the columns of The Hindu In School .

During the interaction, feedback was also obtained from the Principals on what the students expect from the paper.

They were also told that a lot of care and effort went into customising the news in The Hindu In School to the needs of school students. The Principals offered several suggestions ranging from providing more sports news, which the most students loved, including the paper’s editorial columns. A total of 75 Principals took part in the meeting.

An eight-page broadsheet with a mix of news, views, contests and fun factions was launched in April 2012 as an attempt to serve as a useful educational tool for classrooms across 2,500 schools in the country. Its target audience is children in the age group of 11 to 16 and was supplied on weekdays exclusively through schools.

The Hindu In School is priced at Rs.3 per copy. It would be given free of cost for a week for schools that have not subscribed the paper so far.
