Coimbatore, which is already facing nearly 12 hours of power cut a day, is likely to see more unscheduled cuts for the next few days though the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) officials say that the situation will improve in a week.
The Tangedco had already identified the major industrial feeders in the district and is ensuring uninterrupted power supply for four hours a day. Now, it has identified 35 more school feeders that cover the Class X examination centres. Supply to these centres will be prioritised for four hours a day on the examination days.
An official of Tangedco told The Hindu on Monday that there are 60 centres in the city and these come under 35 feeders.
Of the total 102 feeders in the city, the 35 will not be shutdown from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on March 27 and 28 and April 1, 2, 5, 8 and 12 because of Class X examinations.
Load shedding in the areas covered by these 35 feeders will be in the afternoon hours. The Tangedco is also continuing uninterrupted power supply for at least four hours in the industrial areas.
Maintaining uninterrupted power supply for the school and industrial feeders is likely to affect the other areas. The problem was not this bad 10 days ago. Load shedding duration will not go up further. It was for about 10 hours a day on Sunday. The shortage now is temporary and generation is expected to improve in a week, the official says.
