The Corporation officials removed a temple on the Ganapathy Sanganur Road near the Corporation Dispensary in an eviction drive on Saturday morning.

The temple along the road was hindering traffic besides hampering the visibility of the motorists.

Hence Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra ordered for the removal of the temple.

A team under the supervision of Town Planning Officer M. Soundarrajan and led by Assistant Town Planning Officer S. Ravichandran carried out the demolition. The local residents, who initially sought an alternate land from the Corporation for building the temple, finally had agreed to shift the idol to a nearby temple. The public who extended co-operation in the initiative had removed the door and windows enabling the authorities to demolish the civil structure. After the demolition of the temple, the visibility for motorists had improved and flow of traffic has normalised on this stretch, the officials said.
