A 14-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Erimedu on Friday.

The Ramanathapuram police said that the body resorted to the extreme step after his mother denied him money to buy liquor.

The police said that the boy, who was a school dropout, was addicted to liquor and whiteners, which he snorted.

He got money for liquor from the odd jobs he did while accompanying his father P. Balakrishnan, 46, a painter.

On Friday, he had asked his mother for money and she refused, the police said and added that following a complaint by his father, they had registered a case in this connection and further investigation is on.

Girls rescued

The Anti Human Trafficking Unit of the Coimbatore City Police on Saturday rescued two girls — aged 17 and 15, who sought alms by claiming to be speech-impaired.

The police said that the girls, after inquiry, admitted to have feigned the disability for seeking alms.

They also told the police that they were from Andhra Pradesh and stayed with their family members on a pavement near Thudiyalur.

The police sent the two girls to a government home.

Held for car theft

The R.S. Puram Police have arrested V. Karthikeyan, 44, R. Kumar, 24, and N. Sakthi, 24, on charges of stealing a car.

The police said that they were caught stealing a car that was parked at a parking lot in R.S. Puram.

The police sent the accused for remand.

Killed in accident

M. Sitharasan, 23, a student of a private engineering college, was killed in a road accident on Friday.

The Pollachi taluk police said that the incident involving a motorcycle took place when Sitharasan and friends were proceeding on motorcycles to a temple near Udumalpet.

The police have registered a case in this connection.
