A confederation of various Government teachers associations staged a protest here on Saturday condemning the recent instances of violence against teachers and urging the Government to take steps for protecting them.

Coming under the banner of ‘Anaithu Asiriyar Sangankalin Kottamaippu,’ the protestors listed a set of incident in Tamil Nadu in which Government school teachers were allegedly attacked by students or their family members.

The confederation demanded an amendment to Section 51 of the Service Rules and called for increased protection for them. They also called upon the Department of School Education to refrain from taking punitive action against teachers on complaints that were yet to be proved. Action must be taken only after the complaint was proved through an inquiry.
