TASMAC employees stage protest

August 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:12 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Those workers in TASMAC-run liquor outlets who are affiliated to the Coyamuthur Mavatta TASMAC Uzhiyar Sangam staged a protest here on Friday demanding permanent employment and deployment to other arms of the State Government.

The workers, who are affiliated to the trade union, CITU, said that their future had turned questionable with the State Government announcing prohibition in a phased manner.

In Coimbatore, the Government had closed five shops and was in the process of closing a few more shops, they said.

The workers of those shops worried about their future.

The Government had provided alternative employment in a few districts but that too was temporary/contractual in nature.

Permanent job

The Government should recognise the workers’ service in TASMAC liquor outlets and provide employment on a permanent basis against vacancies in various departments.
