TANSACS award for Coimbatore

Coimbatore has bagged the top award given by Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) for reducing the dropout rate among persons with HIV from follow-up treatment.

Coimbatore was selected for showing the highest declining trend in Lost for follow-up (LFU) cases for the year 2012-13.

The award was constituted this year to mark the World AIDS Day. It will be given at Chennai on Sunday (December 1). B. Mohamed Ali, who was the District Programme Manager (District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU)) for Coimbatore between February 2010 and October 2013, said that the number of LFUs declined from around 3,000 in 2010 to nearly 200 to 300 at present.
