The Sports and Games Committee of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) will host its inter-zonal athletic and sports meet for men at various venues here from September 1.
Briefing media persons here on Tuesday, T. Haldorai, Chief Engineer, distribution, Coimbatore region, said it’s going to be a mega sports festival over the next 10 days.
The show, which returns to the city after seven years, features 14 disciplines. It will see 1,500 participants from eight zones such as Chennai, Vellore, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tiruchi and Erode besides host Coimbatore fighting it out for the top honour.
The host zone has enjoyed a rich haul in the past and has dominated in almost every other discipline. It’s a mix-and-match side which can upset the calculation of even the best in the bunch on its given day. This year, with two new players in, it hopes to do well at the kabaddi courts.
“The teams are preparing hard and I believe they will do well,” said Mr. Haldorai, who will inaugurate the meet on September 1 at 10 a.m.
