Amazon Prime, which launched operations in India two years ago, sees Tamil Nadu among the top five States for its membership.

Subbu Palaniappan, Head – Prime Member Growth and Engagement, Amazon India, told presspersons here on Tuesday that in Tamil Nadu, Chennai and Coimbatore have the fastest growth for membership.

Prime membership is available in 400 cities in the country and in Coimbatore region, there are members from places such as Annur, Karamadai, and Mettupalayam too. The trends in Coimbatore are purchase of branded wear (fashion), grocery, and large appliances.

Amazon is able to meet the delivery schedules in Prime as it has invested in infrastructure and has a lot of local sellers. Of the 67 warehouses (fulfilment centres) it has in the country, two are in Coimbatore. One of it is dedicated for large appliances. It also has partnership with 1,000 neighbourhood stores for delivery. Similarly, there are 16,000 sellers on Amazon from Tamil Nadu, he said.
