Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Tuesday alleged that the BJP and the AIADMK had a tacit understanding between them. To expose the two parties, the Congress would hold protests in all district headquarters in the coming days, he told journalists in Coimbatore.
Responding to the BJP’s allegations that the Congress was blocking important legislations in Parliament, Mr. Elangovan said that the Congress had never shied away from acting in people’s interest.
Meanwhile in Tirupur, Mr. Elangovan claimed that the cash found in the three containers that were intercepted in the run up to the Assembly elections was under-reported. According to him, the containers (claimed to belong to the State Bank of India) were transporting Rs. 2,000 crore and not Rs. 570 crore as declared.
Mr. Elangovan said banana farmers in Satyamangalam and Cuddalore had been affected economically after strong winds uprooted almost 80,000 trees. “The State government should immediately compensate the affected farmers by paying the compensation in cash,” he added. He also said that there was a need to be liberal in allocation and recovery of education loans.
