Siruthuli’s ‘Nurture Nature’ camp evokes good response

Over 115 students from 21 schools attended the 11th ‘Nurture Nature’ camp organised by Siruthuli, a non-governmental organisation dealing with water bodies in Coimbatore, from April 17 to 22.

The students were welcomed to the fun-filled and informative camp by Vanitha Mohan, managing trustee of Siruthuli.

The activities of the six-day camp included, visit to the rainwater harvesting structure at Noyyal Life Centre; gaining first-hand experience of desilting work at Valankulam tank; visit to a terrace garden and learning about organic farming and vermicompost techniques; trying hands at converting kitchen waste into manure in easy steps; visit to the sewage treatment plant and waste segregation unit at PSG IMS; planting 15 pungam trees and being part of an interactive session on ‘Wealth out Waste’.

Nature activist C.G.S. Manion spoke to the students on the glorious history of River Noyyal.

The students were taken to River Noyyal at Kooduthurai, only to find it dry.

The participants took an oath to live in harmony with Nature.

The students bid adieu to the camp with a promise to live responsibly.

Pathy A.V., District Governor 2018-19, and Rtn. CJ Raghunathan, Regional Chairman of Rotary Club Coimbatore West, lauded Siruthuli for its efforts. Project chairperson Uma K Rao, highlighted the importance of students’ role in nurturing Nature.
