Student suicide: teacher arrested

June 21, 2011 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - SALEM:

A teacher of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Panamarathupatti, near here, was arrested on Monday in connection with the suicide of a Plus-II student at Nilavarapatti two days ago.

The police launched a hunt for three of his colleagues. S. Srinivasan (18) was found hanging inside his house on Saturday.

On Sunday, his parents found a seven-page letter in his school bag reportedly written by the student.

The letter, according to his parents, accused four school teachers of harassing him ever since he and his friends complained to the headmaster about the poor quality of teaching.

His parents handed over the letter to the Mallur police who, on instructions from senior officers, arrested the mathematics teacher under Section 306 of IPC (Abetment to suicide).
