Student killed in accident

An eight-year-old girl student of Edayarpalayam was killed after she fell from the motorcycle and was crushed under the wheels of a private school van near Kovilmedu on Monday morning.

The incident took place when G. Unnamalai, a Class III student of a private school, was on way to school on a motorcycle, her relative Kumar was riding.

The police said that the vehicle brushed against the van coming in the opposite direction. In the impact, the girl fell on the road and was crushed under the rear wheels of the van. Kumar, who fell on the other side, escaped unhurt. The Thudiyalur police have registered a case. A search is on for the driver.

Motorcycles recovered

A special team of the city police on Sunday arrested a motorcycle lifter and recovered six stolen motorcycles from him. When the team was on a vehicle check on Tiruchi Road, the police, on suspicion, took Arunkumar (23) of Udhagamandalam for questioning. He confessed to have stolen six motorcycles from many parts of the city. All the vehicles were recovered.
