A stray deer was the talk of the town here on Saturday. Speaking to The Hindu, N. Sadiq Ali, Founder-Trustee, Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust, said that early in the morning a sambar was spotted by the residents of Longwood area on the Ooty-Mysore Highway.

On information, personnel from the departments of forest, and fire and rescue services, reached the spot. Volunteers of the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Trust also joined them. An effort was made to capture the animal with a net. However, the animal, which was confused and scared, escaped and ran through various parts of the town including Saint Mary’s Hill, Upper Bazaar, and Jail Hill.

The rescue team kept track of its movements through the police and members of the public. Around noon the deer had run into a dead end near a house below the Government headquarters hospital.
