Stir against ‘excess charges’

April 29, 2013 10:58 am | Updated 10:58 am IST - Tirupur:

Members of Bharat Makkal Katchi staged a demonstration in the city on Sunday against the levy of excess charges above the maximum retail price on whisky, rum, brandy and beer sold at many of the Tasmac-run liquor outlets in the district.

A. Annadurai, state general secretary of the party, claimed that despite this illegal practice taking place rampantly, the authorities concerned were not seen taking proper steps to stop it.

The agitators asked the IMFL outlets to issue proper receipts against every purchase of liquor by the consumers.
