Stage set for government exhibition

The 45-day government exhibition organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations will be open to public at the VOC Park Ground from Sunday, April 26.

While the purpose of the exhibition is to take to the notice the various achievements and schemes of the government to the people, as many as 14 amusement games are in place for children and those young at heart.

Four more games would be added to it in the next few days.

A stall by the police department will exhibit the weapons used by them. The police dog squad will entertain the public in weekends.

Various departments have also organised competitions for the public. It includes healthy baby competition by the Social Welfare Department and talent show for schoolchildren by the Department of School Education. Cultural programmes and traditional folk arts would be performed on all days.

Officials in the Directorate of Information and Public Relations said that this year the exhibition will have stalls put up by 27 departments, against 26 in the yesteryears. A stall by the fisheries department is the latest addition this year.

The officials said that this year the government has enhanced the amount allotted for each department by 10 per cent – to Rs. 66,000.

The exhibition will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on all days.
