Pass percentage in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination in the district witnessed a significant drop from the 83.5 registered last year and stood at 82 this year.
The pass percentage in the matriculation examination in the district went up from 96.9 to 97.7 this year.
Of the 23,774 students (11,639 boys and 12,135 girls) who sat for the SSLC examination, 19,489 candidates (9,036 boys and 10,453 girls) emerged successful. Pass percentage of boys stood at 77.6 and that of girls at 86.1.
Overall pass percentage in government schools stood at 77.8 and that in Corporation/Municipal, government-aided and self finance schools at 79.9, 90.5 and 99.1, respectively.
In the matriculation segment, 4,234 students (2,123 boys and 2,111 girls) cleared the examination out of the 4,332 candidates (2,192 boys and 2,140 girls) appeared.
As many as 85 schools registered centum in the district in the SSLC/matriculation examinations combined.
Of this, 65 were matriculation schools, six were government institutions, two were government-aided and remaining were self-financing schools.
SSLC
In the SSLC examination, T. Vigneswari of Veveaham Higher Secondary School, Dharapuram, emerged the district topper with an aggregate of 491 marks out of 500.
Interestingly, she did not score centum in a single subject with the marks of 99 each for Mathematics, Science and Social Science papers and 97 each for Tamil and English papers.
S. Menaga of St. Aloysius Girls Higher Secondary School, Dharapuram, took the second spot with 488 marks.
Both of them expressed their wish to become doctors.
The third position was shared by six students with 487 marks. Of them, C. Kiruthika of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Uthukuli, also stood first among the students who appeared in the examination representing a government school.
T. Mithrashree of St Joseph's Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tirupur, and K. N. Karthikeyan of Ponnu Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Dharapuram, with an aggregate of 489 marks out of 500 became the joint district topper in the matriculation examination.
Collector C. Samayamoorthy felicitated the district toppers at a function held at Collectorate.
