SSLC: overall pass percentage improves in Coimbatore

As many as 45,863 students took the examination and 43,164 emerged successful

Coimbatore has improved its performance in the Class X board examination this year with the pass percentage rising by 3.92 from last year to touch 94.12 per cent.

This has enabled Coimbatore climb up to the seventh position in the State ranking (excluding Puducherry) from the tenth position last year, when the pass percentage in the district was 90.2.

Education officials say that of the total 45,863 students who took the examination here, 43,164 cleared it. As always, girls continued to outshine boys with their pass percentage being higher by 4.6. Of the 37,058 students in the Coimbatore Educational District, 35,013 cleared it with the pass percentage being 94.4 per cent. Of the 8,805 students in the Pollachi Educational District, 8,151 or 92.5 per cent cleared the examinations.

Centums

According to Chief Education Officer A. Gnanagowri, there are 2,624 centums in science, 2,000 in mathematics, and 1,216 in social science. In the languages, while one student in the district had secured centum in English, a total of 22 students had scored 99 marks in Tamil.

She said that 126 students had secured centums in mathematics, science and social science.

Further, of the 496 schools from Coimbatore district that sent students to the board examinations, 242 schools secured hundred per cent pass percentage, which was higher than the last year’s figure of 210 schools.

This increase was largely driven by matriculation and government schools.

While only two government schools got this distinction last year, it rose to 13 this year.

In matriculation schools, the figure rose to 202 this year from last year’s 187.

Adi Dravidar School

The sole school run by the Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare has also scored cent per cent pass.

According to M. Athimoolam, in-charge, Government Adi Dravidar Welfare Higher Secondary School, Thondamuthur, 48 students took the Class X examination this year.

The highest scorer was A. Madhumitha with 465 marks, while last year’s topper scored 429 marks.
