As many as 36,960 students took SSLC examination on the first day of examinations in the Coimbatore education district on Wednesday. According to sources, the first day of examination also saw 1,447 absentees.
In the Pollachi education district, 8,142 students wrote the examination. As many as 344 students abstained from writing the examination – Language I.
The examination will go on till April 9. In Coimbatore district, which comprises the two education districts, 45,102 students had registered for the examination. The registered candidates included 1,950 private candidates in the Coimbatore education district.
The School Education Department in Coimbatore had delegated supervisory duties to 134 principal supervisors and as many officials to oversee the conduct of the examinations. As many as 140 members comprised the flying squad.
Students at the end of the examination said that the questions were not tough and mostly on the expected lines. There was a typographical error in question 49 but they were able to manage.
Special Correspondent adds from Udhagamandalam: The SSLC examinations got underway in various parts of the Nilgiris district on Wednesday.
The Nilgiris Collector P. Sankar, who inspected a couple of examination centres, told The Hindu that 10,207 students, including 5,066 boys and 5,141 girls, are writing the examinations in the Nilgiris district.
In addition, about 500 private candidates are also appearing.
The number of examination centres for SSLC was 40 in the Coonoor education district and 16 in the Gudalur education district.
To ensure that students do not resort to unfair practices, flying squads have been formed.
A total of 40 chief superintendents and 40 departmental officials have been appointed in the Coonoor educational district and 16 chief superintendents and 16 departmental officials in the Gudalur educational district.
Four custodial points in Coonoor educational district and three in Gudalur have been formed to keep question papers in safe custody. Fourteen custodians have been appointed.
Stating that all the examination centres are equipped with basic amenities, he said that arrangements have been made to ensure that students in rural areas reach their centres on time.
Security has been provided to each examination centre to prevent entry of unauthorised persons.
Meanwhile, the police said that steps have been taken to prevent disturbances near the examination centres.
Since campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections is now in progress political parties and their candidates have been instructed to steer clear of the centres.
