To spread awareness on fire safety among motorists, The Hindu in association with Bharatgas distributed handbills on precautions while using Liquefied Petroleum Gas, along with copies of the newspaper.
Divisional Fire and Rescue Services Officer N. Subramanian, Additional Divisional Fire Officer P. Krishnamoorthy, outgoing Territory Manager of Bharatgas S. Thangavel and the new Territory Manager S.K. Ashok Dharmaraj, and Territory Co-ordinator K. Raveendra launched the drive at the Lakshmi Mills Junction on Avanashi Road on Friday.
Mr.Ashok Dharmaraj and Mr.Thangavel pointed out that while using LPG there was a need to frequently check the hot plate and LPG tubes and replace the LPG tubes at regular intervals to prevent fire accidents.
Using the Fire Services Week, the Bharatgas in association with Fire and Rescue Services Department would reach out to a maximum number of people with the message ‘smoke management to save lives', the theme of the Week.
Later, to mark the valediction, the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department, led by Mr. Subramanian, Mr. Krishnamoorthy and Station Fire Officer (South) P. Annadurai, conducted a mock drill at the Air Force Administrative College in Red Fields.
At Hotel Taj Vivanta in Race Course, the department conducted a mock drill on fire fighting and evacuation.
More than 100 employees of the hotel took part in the drill to know the various fire fighting measures, and tips to save lives and combat fire using various gadgets.
