Liquor outlets closure
All Tasmac liquor outlets and bars attached to them will remain closed for four days from 10 a.m. on May 14 to 16 and again on May 19 in view of the polling and counting of votes as part of the Assembly elections in the state, a release from Collector said. Those who violate the order will be penalised.
Awareness drive
The anti-plastic awareness campaign was inaugurated at Government Botanical Garden (GBG), Ooty on Wednesday by Sipla Mary, Assistant Director. The campaign was organised by the National Green Corps (NGC) of Gudalur Educational District and Nilgiris Environmental and Cultural Service Trust (NEST). Around 150 students from the schools of Gudalur Educational District took part in the campaign.
Model code of conduct
In view of the general election to state assembly, a meeting was convened by the District Election Officer and Collector Archana Patnaik in the presence of observers here with service providers such as milk agents, bakery owners, newspaper agents/vendors, bank officials and cell phone dealers for the strict enforcement of model code of conduct.
All these service providers were asked to report any sign of bribe induced by the political parties. Cell phone sellers and service providers were instructed to inform the control room functioning at the District Election Office (1800-425-5141) if there was any bulk sale of cell phones or recharges. During the meeting the representatives of industries, small scale industries, IT companies, were informed that holiday with wages must be provided on May 16 and no body should be compelled to work that day.
Inauguration
The Quality Circle Forum of India, Coimbatore Chapter, was inaugurated by M. Senthil Kumar, chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association. A two-day training for trainers programme on 5S Workplace Management was organised and the new benchmark for the number of participants was set to 75, breaking the earlier record of 50 plus. According to a release, the governing council of the chapter will be formed during the next meeting and will have representatives from various sectors such as textiles, engineering, foundry, healthcare, and education.
Summer camp
Cambridge English Language Assessment has launched the Young Learners Summer Camp to strengthen and enhance the language skills of children.
The camp focuses on reading, writing, listening and speaking skills of children from six to 12 years. This camp consists of three activity-based courses, followed by international qualification tests.
At the end of the summer programme, the children will undergo the young learners tests, which are designed to make learning fun. All participants will be awarded Cambridge English certificates upon course completion. This programme will be conducted at Cambridge English preparation centres across the country.
