Considering the increasing vehicular population and the workload in some of the Regional Transport Offices, there is a pertinent need to expedite the setting up of one more Regional Transport Office, and create another revenue division, said K. Kathirmathiyon, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause.
In a memorandum, Mr.Kathirmathiyon thanked the Chief Minister for announcing the creation of one more RTO for Coimbatore West in addition to the existing Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North and Coimbatore Central.
While the workload and vehicles were more with Coimbatore South and North, it was relatively lesser in Coimbatore Central. This had to be rationalised to bring in an equal distribution of workload.
The proposed Coimbatore West might come up near Kovaipudur and could have areas carved out of Coimbatore South RTO. Coimbatore Central was likely to have some areas from Coimbatore South as well as North, sources said.
Similarly, the Coimbatore Revenue District earlier had taluks namely Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North, Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Valparai.
In a bid to take revenue services closer to the people and easily accessible, the taluks were bifurcated and three new taluks namely Sulur, Annur and Kinathukkadavu were created. Now, the Government had decided to create more new taluks with Madukkarai and Thondamuthur as their headquarters.
At present, there were five taluks under the jurisdiction of Coimbatore Revenue Division and due to creation of two new taluks, Coimbatore Revenue Divisional Officer would have to administer seven taluks with vast area. Such a situation would defeat the objective of the administration, Mr.Kathirmathiyon said.
He suggested establishing one more divisional office and re-naming the existing RDOs as Coimbatore South and Coimbatore North in addition to Pollachi.
The CCC suggested that a division with Coimbatore North, Mettupalayam and Annur taluks and another division with Coimbatore South, Sulur, Madukarai and Thondamuthur taluks might be considered. Pollachi Sub-Collector would administer Pollachi, Valparai and Kinathukkadavu taluks.
