A special medical camp for cattle supplied to rural women will be held on Saturday, February 18, in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.
As per press releases from the Collectorates of the districts, one lakh beneficiaries were given four lakh sheep and goats and 12,000 milch cows under a government scheme to spark a white revolution in the State.
The scheme to supply milch cows and four goats and sheep free of cost to rural women came into effect on September 15, 2011, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai.
As many as 8,348 goats and sheep and 150 milch cows were distributed in Dharmapuri district and 8,760 sheep and goats and 350 milch cows were distributed in Krishangiri district.
The cattle issued to the beneficiaries are being monitored by veterinary specialists on a weekly basis. Tips are also being given on how to maintain the cattle.
The special camp on February 18 is part of this monitoring, in which milch cows will be vaccinated for foot and mouth disease. To protect the goats and sheep from disease and improve their immunity power, the animals will be vaccinated and de-wormed in the camp, the releases adds.
