A hi-tech ‘Dell-connected’ Smart Classroom equipped with a touch screen digital board, projector and 25 laptops was launched at the Corporation Higher Secondary School in Manikarampalayam here on Friday.
Part of the Digital Equaliser (programme) being implemented by the Coimbatore Corporation and American Indian Foundation (AIF), a non-profit organisation, this smart classroom had also been provided with three years of unlimited broadband connectivity. The laptops and other facilities have been provided by the technology company Dell.
Mayor S.M. Velusamy, who inaugurated the classroom, said that with the North Zone already having such a facility, the civic body was ready to create the infrastructure for Smart Classrooms in one school for each of the four other zones.
He requested the Foundation to provide the content and training for these schools.
The Smart Classroom would benefit the 227 boys and 215 girls of Standards VI to X at the school.
Deputy Commissioner S. Sivarasu, Coimbatore North MLA T. Malaravan, AIF State Programme Manager Baskaran D., Zonal coordinator (DE programme) of foundation V. Alexander took part in the event.
