Six teams formed to nab killers

The Coimbatore Rural Police have formed six special teams to nab the killers of C. Sasikumar.

Preliminary investigation revealed that four persons, who had come on two motorcycles, lay in wait for Sasikumar at an unidentified place and followed him for a while before intercepting his bike and hacking him indiscriminately with sharp weapons.

According to sources, two of the four assailants pushed Sasikumar from his bike and attacked him with knives and billhooks. He sustained cut injuries on his head, hands and stab injuries on his body.

On learning about the incident, Hindu Munnani members rushed him to a private hospital and from where he was referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). However, he was declared brought dead at the CMCH.

Sasikumar is survived by wife Yamuna, who is four months’ pregnant. His brother Sudhakar is the district president of the BJP Yuva Morcha (youth wing).

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) J.K. Tripathy, who rushed to Coimbatore following large-scale violence, said that that the situation was under control and policemen had been posted across the city to prevent untoward incidents.

Senior officers in the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police and Superintendent of Police were also camping in the district.
