Powerloom weavers belonging to South India Textile Millers Association (SITMA) have threatened to go on indefinite stir in Tamil Nadu if the spinning mills did not reduce the yarn price before April 15.
‘Powerloom weavers will resort to ‘indefinite’ strike from April 16 in the State if the spinning millers did not reduce the yarn price before April 15,’ M.S. Mathivanan, Chairman of SITMA, said on Friday night at Erode after a meeting of the Association.
He said after announcement of withdrawal of Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) scheme and levying tax for export of raw cotton, they expected reduction in yarn price, but the spinning millers did not reduce the yarn price.
‘If the yarn price is not reduced before April 15, all the 4.25 lakh power looms in Tamilnadu will not function’ he said.
He also urged the Union Government to bring cotton yarn under essential commodity.
