Singanallur Police have registered a case in connection with the theft of red sanders from the Inland Container Depot in Irugur.

According to police sources, the case was a complex one as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, which had stored the wood at the depot after seizing it in January this year, had not fixed the accused.

Since the DRI’s investigation was pending and it had not fixed the accused, the police would begin investigation to first find out to whom the red sanders consignment was being sent.

At present, it had investigated the depot watchmen and a few other persons to ascertain how the theft had taken place.

The police were trying to find out whether insider information helped the accused thieve the wood from the depot, which belonged to the Container Corporation of India.

The police suspected that there could an inter-state mafia behind the operation.

Normal operations continue

An official of the Container Corporation of India said that investigations were on regarding the theft of red sanders from on Inland Container Depot premises and the Concor has shared all details with the police. The investigation was restricted to the theft site and normal operations at the ICD continued.
