Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued show-cause notices to three unauthorised dyeing units near Perur and action is to be taken on these units soon.

An official of the board here told The Hindu on Tuesday that in the last six months as many as six unauthorised dyeing units were closed down here. Three more units were identified and notices were issued to them.

The textile processing units at Telugupalayam that operated without complying with the pollution control norms had been closed down.

On the noise pollution reports, he pointed out that increasing urbanisation and rapid growth of industries had led to industries and houses coming up in the same area and noise level surveys were taken up based on specific complaints.

The board proposed to upgrade the three air quality monitoring stations here. The monitoring was carried out manually now and a proposal was sent to the Central Pollution Control Board to upgrade these into mechanical ones so that monitoring could be a continuous process.
