The Selvapuram police on Sunday busted a sex racket and rescued four women hailing from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. The police have arrested two persons and are on the lookout for four persons.
The accused, identified as V. Mohammed Harish (20) from Karaikudi, and his accomplice A. Ramesh (31) from Palakkad, were organising flesh trade in a massage parlour at a club in Selvapuram. They operated from a rented house at Telungupalayam. Harish lived in a portion of the rented house with his family and used another portion of the house to accommodate four commercial sex workers. It is learnt that he would send the women to various locations across the city and to the homes of his clients with the help of Ramesh, the police added.
Based on a tip-off, the police raided Harish’s house and rescued four women on Sunday. Harish and Ramesh were booked under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.
On Monday, the two were remanded to judicial custody. Based on information they provided during inquiry, the police are on the lookout for four persons (owners and managers of two resorts in rural Coimbatore) who were allegedly hiring the sex workers from Harish.
