Coimbatore Rural police take owner and driver of vehicle into custody

The Coimbatore Rural Police on Saturday arrested the owner of a septic tank lorry P. Thirumurugan, 44, and its driver K. Veeramuthu, 45, on charges of dumping human refuse, collected from Kerala, near the inter-State border at Walayar.

According to police sources, the two had collected the waste from Pudussery, a village in Palakkad district, driven the vehicle to ACC Pirivu near Walayar and begun to dump human waste around 5 p.m.

Members of the public in the area had spotted this and asked him to stop. Following their refusal, heated arguments broke out after which the police were alerted.

The duo produced an authorisation letter from the Corporation. However, on verification, the police found it to be a fake.

The two were arrested and produced before the Magistrate who remanded them in custody.

Complaint

Based on a complaint from M. Thangaraj, 33, of Navakarai, the K.G. Chavadi Police Station have registered cases under sections 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 264 (b) (obscene utterances or gestures in or near any public place) and 506 (i) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
