Security tightened in Coimbatore ahead of Modi’s visit

Security has been strengthened across Coimbatore district ahead of Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s visit on Wednesday.

According to police sources, City police had a meeting with the Gujarat State police on the security arrangements at the Codissia Trade Fair Hall.

The Gujarat Chief Minister was under Z plus and would also have Special Protection Group (SPG) cover. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and dog squad of Coimbatore City Police were deployed in the venue on Monday. The city police have also started inspections of vehicles near the venue.

Vehicles entering the city were also being subjected to random checks and night-time patrols in sensitive areas in the city have been stepped up.

Around 3,000 police personnel, along with a detachment of Gujarat police team would be deployed for Mr. Modi’s visit.
