In the wake of the attack on post office in Chennai and Income Tax office at Salem in the last two days, Coimbatore City Police have stepped up security measures at Central Government offices across the city.

City Police have sent out communication to all the Inspectors and Assistant Commissioners of Police to have a list of all Central Government offices in their jurisdiction and sub-divisions.

Vital installations of Central Government offices are being provided with armed pickets. Anti-Sabotage Teams (AST) of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of the Coimbatore City Police on Wednesday conducted a search operation at Central Government offices as a matter of precaution. Various State Government office premises were also searched.

Inspectors have been asked to ensure that day and night beats are marched in areas having Central Government offices besides ensuring that night beats, lurking beats, mobile motorcycle squads and patrol vehicles frequently visited the areas having Central Government offices.

With the police reinforcements sent to Pasumpon for Thevar Jayanthi on the way back, police are planning to step up the security measures from Wednesday midnight. In addition to the city police strength, two companies of Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion (TSP) from Kovaipudur, Armed Reserve police personnel and home guards have been drafted for the security duty.
