The police have made elaborate security arrangements in the West Zone for Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations, said Inspector General of Police – West Zone, P. Sivanandi, on Wednesday.

Mr. Sivanandi said that the police have conducted meetings to ensure communal harmony. In Hosur, members of other faiths have come forward to accord reception to the processions. Similarly, vigil was being maintained in communally sensitive pockets in Tirupur, Mettuppalayam and Pollachi.

A total of 10,000 police personnel would be involved in security arrangements for protection of 9,600 idols to be installed in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. The idols would be taken for immersion in 266 processions.
