The Coimbatore district has achieved a total coverage of 99.17 per cent during the second phase of the pulse polio programme held on Sunday.
According to a press release, a total of 3,27,290 children in the age group of zero to five years were covered.
Of this, 1,42,522 children were covered in urban areas, while 1,84,768 were covered in rural areas.
Further, through the transit booths, kept to target the families who were travelling during this campaign, polio drops was administered to 2,753 children in rural areas and 5,373 in urban areas besides 1,232 children of migrant workers.
These booths were installed in the railway junction and bus stands.
The 105 Battalion of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised a Pulse Polio Immunisation drive on Sunday.
The programme was inaugurated by P.P. Pauly, Commandant of the 105 battalion. Polio drops were administrated to around 200 children of the CRPF personnel and civilians residing near the camp.
UdhagamandalamNilgiris Collector P.Sankar inaugurated the campaign at Coonoor. Arrangements had been made to administer polio drops to 47,112 children below the age of five years.
As many as 770 booths had been set up in various parts of the district.
The drops were also given at mobile medical units and immunisation posts set up at bus stands, railway stations, check posts and tourists spots like the Government Botanical Garden and the Boat House.
Mr. Sankar also inaugurated a special health camp to mark the 66th birthday of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
TirupurThe second phase of the pulse polio immunisation programme targeting 2.23 lakh children in the district was held on Sunday. Of the targeted children, 1.6 lakh were from rural areas and the remaining from the urban localities. A total of 1,154 booths were set up to administer the polio drops.
