Members of the Coimbatore District Central State Government Bank, Insurance and Public Sector SC/ST Staff Association’s Council on Monday petitioned the district administration stating that the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University management was biased against Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes workers.

The management asked the members to forward their representations to the Chief Minister and get order from her for even their basic demands. This approach had forced the members to launch an agitation.

The members said that the management did not strictly adhere to the reservation system in admissions and targeted SC/ST workers and employees.

Vellalore dump yard

Aam Aadmi Party has asked the Coimbatore District Collector Archana Patnaik to visit residential colonies near the Coimbatore Corporation’s dump yard in Vellalore to understand the problems the people faced.

The administration should constitute a team comprising representatives from Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Health Department, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Coimbatore Corporation to take immediate steps to provide a permanent solution to the residents who were suffering because of the dump yard in their midst.

Tasmac outlet

Residents of Rukkammal Colony, Thudiyalur, in a petition to the Collector Archana Patnaik on Monday said that the Tasmac-run liquor outlet that had been functioning for the last six months in their locality had troubled the residents to no end. The petition said that there was a primary school, children’s home, a free health establishment for women and children, a tennis coaching academy, and a gym for women, in the vicinity of the liquor outlet.
