The students will attempt three more world records on September 6, 7

The students of Nikita Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Nikita International School of Studies, on Wednesday, entered the Limca Book of Records under three categories. Around 350 students and 48 teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools were part of the event held on the campus.

According to the correspondent of the schools, B. Anand Kumar, this was to be followed by three more world records on September 6 and 7.

R. Lakshiya, Standard VIII student of Nikita International School of Studies, set the record of creating ‘world’s largest finger painting by an individual (female)’ by doing a painting on the theme eye donation. Lakshiya’s 100 square metre painting done using fabric paint on cloth with over 47,000 fingerprints, broke the record set by Italy’s Michelle Bonnets Florence in April 2011.

The feat was completed in around12 hours and she was allowed to take a 20-minute break in every four hours. Lakshiya said, “I hope the message to donate eyes will reach more people through my attempt.” The students of the schools sought a creative way to celebrate Teachers’ Day by making a colourful chalk mosaic on the theme ‘Education for All’ in around 8 hours. The mosaic, on 64 square metres, was done by 388 students of the school using over 1.15 lakh chalk pieces. The students broke the existing record of 54-square metre-mosaic by the students of University of Milan, Italy.

The third event was the largest ice-stick mosaic on 78 square metres on the theme ‘Save Energy’ designed in 11 hours. “We usually have ice-creams and throw away the sticks. We wanted to spread the message of recycle and reuse while emphasising the need to conserve energy,” G.l. Ezhilnilavan and L. Pradyum, Class VIII students, explained why they had chosen ice-sticks for the artwork.

The records were certified by Limca Book of Records, Elite World Records Private Limited (U.K.), Asian Record Academy (Singapore), India Records Academy (Mumbai), Unique World Records (U.S.), RecordSetter (U.S.) and India Books of Records (Haryana), said Mr. Kumar. Inspection officers from the certification agencies monitored the activities.

According to him, the students and staff would attempt to create ‘Longest Pencil Sketching’, ‘Largest Footprint Painting’ and ‘Largest Thumb Painting’ in the next two days.

The secretary and principal of the Nikita Matriculation Higher Secondary School C. Natarajan and principal of Nikita International School of Studies K.C. Sunanda coordinated the events.
